The recent Indiana General Assembly gave a boost to development projects around transit stations in Northwest Indiana, a local board learned Wednesday. The city of Gary will get money to help tear down the South Shore Line and bus station in downtown Gary and build a new one there, along with money to help demolish crumbling buildings in the downtown area, thanks to Senate Enrolled Act 434. That act also set up a funding mechanism for a new convention center in Lake County. House Enrolled Act 1046 authorizes the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority (RDA) to establish a transit development district (TDD) around Valparaiso's commuter bus center.
